Uncaria gambir as the Potential Commodities from West Sumatra, Indonesia: A Mini Review

Gambir is a dry extract from the stems and leaves of the Uncaria gambir plant, West Sumatra is one of the areas where gambir is produced. One form of gambir extraction is dried gambir, a dry extract obtained by steaming, extracting, freezing, printing and drying the gambir extract. Gambir is very potential as a source of antioxidants. Gambir’s antioxidant components are used to reduce several diseases, including cancer, anti-lipid peroxidation, inflammation and Alzheimer’s and can inhibit the action of enzymes. Gambir is used in various forms as a preventive or treatment for some diseases. Gambir is also used in different foods about being an antioxidant. Further research needs to improve the use of gambir in encapsulation form to use gambir as medicine. The objective of this review was to provide a comprehensive information to explore Uncaria gambir’s potential in terms of its potential for health and in other industries.
