Efficacy and Safety of Roxadustat Compared to Erythropoiesis-Stimulating Agents in the Treatment of Renal Anaemia in Haemodialysis Patients: A Meta-Analysis

Suqiang Shen and Jia Sun

Background and Objective: A significant public health concern is epidemiological chronic renal disease. Epidemiological studies estimate 120 million Chinese CKD patients and the incidence is rising. Renal insufficiency is the most common CKD adverse effect in China, 51.5, 53.6 and 62.1% of CKD patients without dialysis, peritoneal dialysis, or hemodialysis have anemia and renal function affects anaemia severity. This meta-analysis compares roxadustat to erythropoiesis-stimulating drugs for haemodialysis patients with renal anaemia. Materials and Methods: The computer searches eight datasets to find random controlled studies comparing roxadustat to erythropoiesis-stimulating drugs for the treatment of renal anaemia in haemodialysis individuals. Data analysis was carried out using RevMan 5.3 software following a thorough assessment of the content of the literature. Results: This meta-analysis eventually included 11 papers. Every single one of them was regarded as a random, controlled experiment. The test collective’s and control collective’s Hb levels were both considerably higher (SMD: 9.60; 95% Cl: 4.34, 14.87 and p<0.01) than the control collective’s levels, as were the test group’s and control collective’s SF levels, according to 11 studies (SMD: 57.06; 95% Cl: 40.77, 73.36 and p<0.01), the level of TRF (SMD:0.48; 95% Cl: 0.38,0.59 and p<0.01) and ADR (OR: 1.00; 95% Cl: 1.00, 1.20 and p = 0.051). Conclusion: According to adverse reactions, Hb, SF and TRF data, roxadustat may be helpful for haemodialysis individuals who have renal anaemia. Nevertheless, these findings have to be confirmed by additional, high-quality research.
